If your computer is slow, broken or just acting strange, you don’t need to know what’s wrong with it. That part’s my job.

Is it worth fixing?

Sometimes a repair is an easy yes. A cracked laptop screen on a machine that otherwise runs well is usually worth replacing.

Sometimes it isn’t. If the repair would cost close to what a new computer costs, I’ll tell you before you spend the money. Then it’s your call, with no hard feelings either way.

Before you call

None of this is required, but it helps if you can tell me:

What it’s doing, in your own words. “It’s doing that thing again” is a fine place to start.
When it started, and whether anything changed around then.
The brand and model, if there’s a sticker you can read.

If it’s clicking or grinding, or you smell something burning, turn it off and leave it off until we’ve talked, especially if it holds files you can’t replace.

Questions people ask

Will I lose my files?

Tell me first if there’s anything on there you can’t lose. I’ll tell you what’s at risk before I start. If a drive has already failed, I can’t promise everything can be saved, and I’ll say so plainly.

How much does a repair cost?

It depends on what’s wrong, so I don’t post a number that might be wrong for yours. The phone call is free, and you’ll know the price before any work starts.

Do I have to bring it to you?

No. I can come to your house, you can drop it off with me, or I can fix it remotely if it still turns on and gets online.
